We’ve had a great experience with Goldfish Swim School over the past 2 months and today I’m sharing a little about why the instructors are truly golden!
We’ve been taking lessons at Goldfish Swim School for almost two months now. While there are so many things which make them stand apart, the instructors are one of the biggest I’ve found so far. Today I’d like to share our wonderful experience we’ve had with Emily’s teacher, Mr. Stuart.
Let me tell you a little about Emily’s first lesson. While she loves to swim, she’s only ever gone with Kevin or I. Well, I signed Emily up for the Mini 3 class where she goes without a parent. She had started to get a little clingy with me, so I thought having her take lessons on her own might be a good learning opportunity for her.
The moment I handed her over to Mr. Stuart she started to cry. I wanted to work on this independence thing so I went to the parents area, but after a few more minutes of crying I decided to go inside and sit by the pool. I thought it might help, but it didn’t and she continued to cry “mommy, mommy.” Talk about total mom-guilt for putting her in this class without me. She did this for the ENTIRE 30 minutes…
Can I just tell you what a total rockstar Mr. Stuart was? If he was annoyed or bothered, it sure didn’t show one bit. If that was me in the pool I would have said “ok, we’re done!” after 10 minutes of crying. He continued for the entire 30 minutes to try and entertain her in a million and one ways. I was seriously impressed with his patience and determination.
Oh and did I mention when the deck manager noticed Emily crying and needing more attention, she jumped right into the pool to take over the lesson for the other children. This allowed Mr. Stuart to spend the entire lesson with Emily. Talk about first class, right?
After the lesson was over, Emily received a ribbon for her first class, not that she exactly deserved one…. As we went to leave, Emily ran to the pool door and said “more swimming! more swimming!” I asked if she wanted to go back in the pool and she enthusiastically said “Yes!” Seriously, kid….
The next week and the ones that have followed, I’ve dropped her off with Mr. Stuart and despite her initial hesitance, I go sit in the parents area. You know what, as soon as I leave she’s perfectly fine! She will even spot me during her class and wave and blow kisses – sooo cute! This past week she even ran (despite my saying “no running, no running!”) to Mr. Stuart. Talk about a complete 180 from her first class, right?
Even though she thankfully doesn’t need the 1:1 attention from Mr. Stuart any more, his attention to her and the other students is impressive. He encourages her to do new things like floating on her back or jumping in and gives her high fives for a job well done! Even when he’s with another student, he’s always keeping his eye on her as she sits waiting for her turn – once again a nod to their focus on water safety.
Many of my other friends have their children at Goldfish too and every time I tell them she has Mr. Stuart for a teacher, I only get positive remarks like “oh, my girls had him, he’s great!” While I’m sure Emily would love her swim lessons no matter which instructor she had, I’d like to personally say a big “Thank You!” to Mr. Stuart for making our experience at Goldfish Swim School truly golden!
Do you have children at Goldfish Swim School? I’d love to hear about your great experiences with the instructors too!
