The Franklin Park Conservatory, near downtown Columbus, is one of our new favorite places to take Emily to run, explore and learn!
I know this is mostly a food blog, but today I’m sharing something a little different! I hope you don’t mind 🙂 I’d like to share a little about the Franklin Park Conservatory and all the fun we’ve been having there lately!
Now that Emily’s a little older, we’ve really been trying to get out and about and explore all Columbus has to offer. If you can believe it, we just took her to FPC for the first time this past summer! Kevin and I had been there on a date and my sister was actually married there, but taking Emily just hadn’t really crossed my mind… boy were we missing out!
Emily loves to wander and look at the flowers, plants, waterfalls (or water-walls, as she calls them) and fish! She’s always pointing at something new and getting excited at what she sees around every corner! Plus, they have fun events and programs for children almost every weekend. Fun and educational, yes please!
Just a few weeks ago, we went to their Valentine’s Day program where Emily could color a heart-shaped flower and decorate a holiday cookie. Hands-down the cookie decorating was her favorite part, of course, but I thoroughly enjoyed a few minutes of coloring while Daddy helped her with the frosting and sprinkles. This coming weekend they have Irish dancing to help celebrate the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day. How fun is that? Check out their calendar of events here.
On the lower level of the main building, they have a few additional children activities like coloring, a large magnetic board with plant and flower magnets and giant sized Lite-Brite. Emily loves the Lite-Brite and we work on our fine-motor skills by putting the pegs in the holes as well as naming the different colors. They also have a small train set that Emily is mesmerized by. She could probably watch it run all day saying “choo-choo, choo-choo!”
Don’t forget about the outdoor area too! It might be a little cold to explore these areas now, but once it’s warmer I can’t wait to get Emily in the gardens to see even more plants, flowers and fun! Their Pollinator Palooza, which we went to last year, is coming up in June! Held in their Garden Campus, it’s a great outdoor family outing to learn more about bats, bees, butterflies and more!
If you live in or around Columbus, you should definitely plan a trip. There is so much to do and see and it’s even fun for both Mom and Dad!
