This Southern Planters Punch was inspired by our family’s recent trip to South Carolina. When the days are as hot and humid as they are in the South, a refreshing drink like this is just what you need!
If you’ve ever traveled South before, you know how hot and steamy it is in the summer. When we booked this trip in January, the thought of how hot it might be in South Carolina in July honestly never crossed my mind. I know, I’m totally ridiculous.
Come June when the temperatures started to creep up in Central Ohio and our vacation neared, this question started to weigh on my mind a little bit more…
Well, that question was answered pretty quickly the minute we opened our door upon arrival at Isle of Palms. It was about 3pm and the temperature was nearing the mid-90’s. The humidity? I really don’t even want to venture what that might have been. Lucky for me I’d been growing my hair out, so a french braid was my go-to hairstyle that week.
When the temperature and humidity are nearing triple digits, this Southern Planters Punch is a total lifesaver. Bright, refreshing and most of all COLD, it was my afternoon treat during our vacation.
All you have to do is simply add the ingredients to pitcher, stir to combine and you’re good to go! If you want to make an adults-only version, feel free to add a little rum to mixture. With the little ones running around in the afternoon, I felt more comfortable making this “mocktail” version, below. However, after their bedtime at night the version with rum is just what mommy and daddy needed after a long day at the beach!
We might be moving into September, but you can still enjoy this tasty drink! It’ll take you right back to your days at the beach even if Fall is right around the corner.
