Happy 2017! The new year brings a healthy eating challenge for myself as well as some changes at Made by Melissa Lee!
A New Year…
Happy New Year friends! I hope you had a lovely holiday season shared with family, friends and lots of good food!
I know I ate all kinds of yummy (read, unhealthy) goodies over the past few weeks! But you know what? I loved every minute of it, with very little guilt. Since the holidays and seasonal treats only come once a year and I don’t feel the least bit upset about letting my diet go just a bit the last few weeks of December each year. I hope you feel the same!
However, now that January’s here, it’s time to get back on the healthy-eating train! I don’t really mind either since I happen to love fruits, veggies and other healthy foods! This year though, I’m giving myself a mini little “food-challenge” for the month of January.
I got this cookbook, shown above, at the library in December and found it really interesting! As you can see, I already have a lot of photos tagged to try out. The main idea is cutting out processed food and eating what Lisa calls “real foods.” This means you can have cheese, meats, eggs, fruits, veggies and whole grains – a lot of the foods I usually eat. However, the “tricky” part for me is cutting out sugars and some of the other foods I usually consider healthy, like whole wheat bread since they include added sugars. It’s caused me to get a little creative with our meals, but in a good (healthy) way!
So far I’m doing pretty well… We’ll see how the rest of the month goes! Wish me luck!
If you’ve visited the blog lately, you’ll have noticed I took a little time off from posting during December and even earlier this month. There’s been so much going on lately and while I’m sure some of you missed seeing my weekly posts, this lady here needed some time away!
I wanted to decorate the house, do holiday shopping and spend extra time with my little girl for her 2nd Christmas. All of that meant less time to develop recipes, photograph them and post them here for all of you.
However, I have been sharing lots of food photos and recipes on Instagram! I love how IG still allows me to share my love of food, but in a manner that involves less time than blogging.
You can follow me @MadeByMelissaLee to see what I’ve been cooking and baking as of late! I still hope to share some recipes on here, but it will be a lot less frequently than usual. I hope you understand 🙂
