Starting January 1st it seems as though everyone is on a diet. Here are my favorite oatmeal recipes to start your day on the right foot!
With January the start of a new year, I thought it might be nice to share some variations of my favorite food to start the day – oatmeal!
If you follow my blog at all, you know how much I love oatmeal! I probably have it for breakfast 75% of the time. My husband is not a huge oatmeal lover, but that’s fine because that leaves more for me! Oh and Emily too 🙂 She takes after her mama and is an oatmeal lover as well!
Oatmeal has come such a long way in recent years. I remember going on diets in high school and starting my day with oatmeal. Oh how I dreaded it. I made it on the stovetop with oats + water – that’s all!?! What was I thinking??
Sure, I mean it has fewer calories that way, but what a depressing way to start the day, right? While these recipes have more calories than my high school version, they taste a million times better. I’m not exaggerating in the slightest here.
I still like to keep them low in calories and fat though and manage this by using both water and milk to cook them in. Skim milk, 2% or unsweetened almond milk are my personal preferences here. I also up the health factor in most of them by adding fruits and veggies like bananas, apples and pumpkin.
Most of the recipes are only sweetened with the addition of fruit and a little brown sugar. You can even omit the sugar in most of them if you really wanted to.
Without further adieu, here’s a round up of my favorite oatmeal recipes. I hope some of them become favorites for you too!
